now I've never seen my centreboard in it's down position before, but the other evening I took the lid off while afloat and was slightly surprised that the board is raked slightly backwards in its fully down position. Does anyone know if it's meant to be like that? I had imagined it to be vertical for some reason.

Here's an underwater picture of my BR20, which as far as I know is identical to the BRe.  I think that the cenreboard is raked 5-10° aft.  You can certainly see in the photo that it's at a different angle to the rudder.

Graham,
Thanks that's helpful, it's hard to tell the angle from above, but i'm probably about that too.

It's raked even more on the BC20, about 14 degrees. The attached illustration conforms to the GA drawing copies I got from Matt while Seatern was being built which showed the foils in the fully down (and up) positions. Draft of the BC20 with CB down is 1.2m compared to 1.4m for the BC20/BRe. I just wish the rudder were not raked forward so much - a problem when I manage to run it into the mud!
