ah, I wasn't sure if you were serious about the water, but that would make a difference!
yip I think there is potential for rollers to be helpful in a number of situations, but as you say practice required!

I was thinking of detaching and using my mainsheet and an anchor to haul my boat bit by bit up a beach if there were no vikings to hand.  I've done it before to get my boat up on to its trailer when the winch failed.  It was slow but it worked.

Et voilĂ !  The difficult bit was getting the boat off the trailer over seized keel rollers.

I like the mainsheet idea, use everything for several things and carry less kit!

As a tougher (but harder to store) alternative I've been looking at these extra long fenders made by dan-fender

They make them 200x1055mm and 300x1130

You mean like this? 

Long fenders work OK but can slip out sideways, and yes, take up a lot of space in the boat (not a problem on Mystery)

Yes, although the Danfender ones  are much longer so would be less likely to slip out.
