I should be very grateful for any views on the suitability of a BayRaider for someone no longer quick or agile enough to sail racing dinghies.  I had thought of graduating to a fully ballasted dayboat, but the BayRaider looks like a potentially more exciting alternative. However, it would be good to hear views on how forgiving the boat is of a slow crew!

Many thanks

I should think it is highly suitable. It doesn't fall over and you can sail it with just the jib and mizzen. Everything is self tacking. If you are out for a cruise there really isn't all that much to do! I would suggest you have a look also at the new Bayraider 17 which was at the Beale Park Show. I think it would be a dobble to sail.

Hi Chris

I often sail single handed, generally around the Solent. With the ballast tank full she just won't tip over and she doesn't slam over the Solent chop.  With crew you can leave filling the tank until the wind really pipes up, and you need to have her unballasted to get the best out of the asymmetric. Like you I am not nimble enough for a tippy dinghy but have no problems with the BayRaider. And she is a doddle to launch and recover.

Best wishes
Jeff

Has anyone a photograph of the BR 17 hull we can see please?

I have found one on the Daisy Grace blog.

These are the ones I took at Beale Park. They aren't very good, it is a lovely boat. I hope to see her sailing at the English Raid. Might even get a sail in her if I'm lucky

Thanks for the photographs, I understand Matt has had her on the water. Must see pics or video!
