Thanks for the detailed info, Gareth. I am planning the same job, but probably in white if it's available, partly 'cos I like it and also the mast hopefully won't heat up as much in direct sunlight.

I just wondered if painting the mast can hinder any future repairs, or can it be carefully sanded off?

Also, for gunter rigs, will the parrel beads wear off the paint quickly, compared with using a mast track?

I assume it should be easy to sand back / off any paint in the event of repairs. I don't konw about parrel beads wear - but assume that they will have a detrimental effect.

If using white paint - thre is a white primer to go with it. Tip when using he primer - give it a good stir first as it has quite a high solid content which tends to settle at the bottom of the tin.
