Good evening, we are in the UK, and about to receive a new Bay Raider expedition.
Could you please advise on which insurance company you use?
Are there number of choices? Many thanks, David

Jonathan Stuart

There are a number of options. I always used Craftinsure and found them competetive on cost and the service was good, but I never had to make a claim. I'm sure others will have different recommendations. There have also been topics on this in the past, so if you search for insurance then you should find those conversations.

Hello,
I collected a new Bayraider 20 just before Christmas and took out insurance from Craftinsure. They gave me the lowest quote of all the insurance firms I contacted. I've always found them to be good on price but have never yet had to make a claim.

Another Craftinsure customer, yet to make a claim and hoping it stays that way.  It was the cheapest quote.

I've been insured with Noble Marine forever and have never claimed.  Yesterday, out of idle curiosity, I asked for a quote from Craftinsure.  They automatically referred me over to a company called Velos Insurance Services, which sounds like it ought to be something to do with bicycles.  Anyway, their quote was nearly 25% higher than Noble Marine at £252.

Interesting.  Mine is a 'pleasurecraft' insurance through Navigators & General.  Last quote, summer '22, was £162 with an excess of £150.  I just applied through the Craftinsure website.  Very straightforward indeed.

Possible reasons for my higher premium could include an expensive electrical outboard (an eProp), rather a lot of electronic gadgetry, an inflatable dinghy, ticking the 'occasional racing' box and insuring for legal expenses.

Thank you very much everybody for responding so candidly. Most helpful, I'm looking forward to being told when our boat will be ready. Anticipating a good season.

I'm reviving this thread because it's renewal time for my BR20 insurance.  I've been with Noble Marine for well over a decade and have never had to make a claim.  Their quote for next year's insurance is 47% higher than last year at £297.  Has anyone else suffered such an outrageous attempted increase?

I've now had other quotes in the range £170-210, which seem altogether more reasonable.

Based on the information we hold, your premium (inclusive of Insurance Premium Tax, current rate 12%) will be £9.07 per month with a Policy excess of £130.00 (last year's premium was £9.07 per month with excess £130.00). Please check that cover described in the Insurance Policy Information Document attached continues to meet your needs.

The above was from my 2023 renewal for my 2019 BR20 and trailer.

I can recommend GJW Direct. For many years I used Navigators & General via John Lane for my dinghies and then my BC26 until John Lane stopped doing boat insurance about 5 years ago. I found switching to GJW very straightforward, unlike some of the other companies that I went to for quotes. It's very annoying to fill in all your info on line, then be phoned by a sales rep who asks you the same questions all over again, then be called back an hour later to be told that they don't insure carbon masts! They could have told you that in the first place surely? No such messing about with GJW, just fill in the form on line and get an immediate quote. All documents in plain English. Carbon rigs not a problem, cover for racing (except for the rig unless it's damaged in a collision), and a premium that went up 0% in 2022, 6% in 2023 and 0% again in 2024. Any insurance company that only increases premiums by inflation or less gets my repeat business - long may it last.

Like Peter, I too have used Craftinsure for a few years now and find them very reasonable for my BR20 and tender. HOWEVER - I have never had to make a claim (touch wood) so do wonder how that might go if I ever have to. Has any one else made a claim using Craftinsure?

Thanks everyone for your insurance suggestions.  In the end and after getting several quotes, I went with one that was slightly more expensive - Nick's GJW.  Still more than £100 cheaper than Noble Marine.
