I have been playing around with an Android phone, recording my tracks and loading them to Google maps. Last weekend's jaunts can be seen here http://goo.gl/maps/pjFDX
What struck me is that it is very easy to record your track, but well nigh impossible to see what is on the screen whilst you are actually sailing. (I also noticed that polarising sunglasses don't help). Some of the dedicated marine units I have seen aren't much better than the phones. Does anyone know if any manufacturer has started using an "e-paper" display, such as you get on an Amazon Kindle, for marine screens. These are only grey scale, but they get easier to read, the brighter the light. They seem perfect for viewing on a boat, but I have never seen one used.
