Hi,

It would be good if more people could moderate these forums so we're not reliant on me to approve posts from new members and delete spam, etc. Understandbly, people generally don't want to be formal moderators. But I have another suggestion. I can give certain member groups additional rights to manage other people's topics and posts. For example, anyone who is a "Hero" (200 posts) or above (15 members) could be given rights to approve or reject posts from new members. Approval is a one-stage process so there's no way to check that this approval is being done correctly but I think we can trust people who have posted so much on the forum. This strikes me as a way to make the forum community more "self moderating" without asking individuals to be moderators.

What do you think? Would this work and would Hero members be happy to have these powers? If we do this I would create a post giving instructions on what to do.

Thanks. I'll start working on this. It won't be immediate but intend to give the biggest contributors more control of the forum over the coming weeks.

I support this and will help out occasionally should I ever qualify. I would strongly advise a one paragraph statement of policy. It's impossible to legislate for all situations no matter how long the guidance is, and the longer the guidance the less likely it is to be consulted and followed. So, the following does it for me, and might be almost the sole necessary guidance for moderators approving/rejecting posts. "Be polite, assume good faith, be somehow Swallow Yachts relevant." Needless to say it's me who needs to be reminded of this as much as or more than anyone.

We owe Jonathan our gratitude.  He has made a considerable contribution to the forum's success, not only from his skilled management of the technical side but also his "light touch" diplomacy. It is only fair that Jonathan should spread the load and asking respected frequent contributors to moderate is very reasonable.

I agree with Paul's guidance:

Thank you for that feedback, it's much appreciated.

I have given some admin rights to all members in groups Hero, Super Hero and Demigod. That's everyone with 200 or more posts and there are currently 15 such members. The rights are detailed in the following post and I will update that post if any of the delegated admin rights changes.

My initial main aim is to have more people able to approve posts from new members so these aren't always waiting on me.
