I have just read Iain Oughtred, a Life in Wooden Boats, by Nic Compton, which was published last month. A lovely book in all ways, but of great interest to us as Nick and Matt Newland are name checked in the last two pages. Slightly disapproving of the use of computers in wooden boat design, but then a reluctant agreement that this is the way forward for small volume producers. Even Iain Oughtred himself, the arch traditionalist designer, has been asking CAD users to check some of his calculations for him. I would recommend the book, as an interesting biography of an interesting person and also for its lovely collection of design drawings to drool over at the end.

Julian,
I am quite a fan of Iain Oughtred and his designs. Very capable and well performing all of them. We meet them all over Europe and I know he has followers all over the world.
Just recently again in Venice: We met a guy who did a long journey on the River Po last year in an Iain Oughtred Ness Yawl.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7I7uENUUTM

The book must be an interesting read, thanks for alerting us to it.
