Much enjoyed your article. Your Deben Lugger (and you!) would thrive on junk rig.

Can I solicit expert views on the cover picture of WC 96? - a Shannon OD going like a train/planing on a close-ish reach during the Irish Raid last summer. Is that a seriously twisted hull, or a photographic 'trick of the something'? The top of the transom suggests the stern is almost flat in terms of heel, whereas the forward half of the hull, including the mast, is heeling quite a lot. Isn't it? A new meaning to 'flexible design'? An effect of old age (I'm referring to the boat)? That's also a stressed wooden boom! - good aerofoil curve though.

It caught my eye. Cracking sail!!

It does look twisted.  Also, there don't seem to be any reefing lines on the mainsail.
